Submitting Articles for Publication

Forth City Institute upholds high academic standards in all our published articles. Forth City is a not-for-profit, quarterly journal focused on alleviating Saint Louis metropolitan issues with progressive ideals.  Forth City Journal relies on YOUR submissions. If you are aware of an issue facing the St. Louis community we encourage you to research, write and submit your article to us for publication. We are looking for three types of articles:

  1. Commentary: Approximately 1,500 words, well-researched with most sentences cited, using APA format. Formatting for commentaries should set forth: (a) an introduction explaining what issue is facing the St. Louis region; (b) a hypothesis statement for resolving the issue; (c) different theories for solving the issue;  (d) establishing why your theory is the best solution for the issue; and  (e) a conclusion that wraps the article up. Commentaries are seen as more scholarly pieces and an author’s academic resume may be considered in publication preference.
  2. Articles: Approximately 500 words. This is a shorter version of a commentary. While an article must meet Forth City’s professional standards, it allows a quicker glance at an issue. A similar format should be follows. Citations are encouraged, but not required.
  3. Shout outs: These are 250 words or less and allow readers to give a quick shout out to issues facing them. It is similar to a letter to the editor.

All articles submitted must include a signed waiver by the writer that allows Forth City to have the non-exclusive right to use the published work in how they seem fit. All articles will be edited by our staff and may be cut or expanded upon. Any article used Forth City, even a small portion, will be credited to the author.

All articles should be submitted to nolan.sharkey@forthcitystl.org
